On a rare cool August evening action at Wilkesboro Raceway Park was just as hot as ever.
Visiting WRP for the first time this year, Roan Mountain TN's Joey Street and his classic Chevy was absolutely deadly. Running his numbers every run, Street put out the best of the WRP regulars one by one till he reached the finals against Boone's Mitchell McKinney and his bright yellow Camaro.
When the tree went down Street did what he does best, run the numbers and turned on the win light to capture the Top ET win.
"My car has been in Pieces for months" said Street. “This is the first time we've had it out. Not a bad debut huh" he said with a smile.
Modified ET came down to the classic battle, Ford vs. Chevy. Tim Mathis from Taylorsville and his Camaro and Boone's Michael Trivette and his Mustang. After being runner up in the last race, Trivette was hungry for a win.
Both cars pretty evenly were matched as they went to the line, but as the tree went down, Mathis was a little bit early and turned on the red light by only 20/1000 of a second handing the win to Trivette at the line.
Sibling rivalry was the story in Jr Dragsters. Brother and Sister, Luke and Chelsey Eggers took on all challengers and put them on the trailers to meet each other in the finals.
The tree lit up and the cars took off, at the end of the 1/8 mile, it was Chelsey that turned on the win light over little brother. Chelsey was all smiles when she reminded Luke that not only did she beat him, she beat him in his old dragster.
Racing action continues this week at WRP with the popular Test N Tune night Thursday. Gates open at 530 and only $8 gets you in to watch or race!
Saturday night along with the cars and stars of the WRP Points Series, The Classic Gear Jammers are back with their clutch dropping, wheelie popping action. Gates open at 4pm. Come out early and get your favorite seat for some of the hottest drag racing action around.
