Buchanan and Coffee Win Battles Roberts, Hodges, and Goble Win the War

A cool fall evening make the perfect backdrop for Saturday's Championship night at Wilkesboro Raceway Park.
In Top ET Frank "The Snake" Roberts had pretty much already locked up the title, but the battle for second was fierce.
Only twenty points separated second through fifth place. That's just where the drama started. Robert Buchanan needed to win and have other drivers go out early,
that didn't happen relegating him to a fifth place finish in the points. Roger Robertson went out early sending him to forth place finish. Tim Church and Clyde McKinney
were left to battle for runner up. McKinney caused the drama when he hit the gas in the first round and the transmission went south. McKinney was rescued when fellow racer Chris Plott loaned his car to McKinney and the Bowtie driver took Plott's Mercury enough rounds to secure a second place points finish over Church.
The final results were 1st Frank Roberts 180 2nd Clyde McKinney 130 3rd Tim Church 126 4th Roger Robertson 123 5th Robert Buchanan 112.
In the evenings race, Morganton's Brett Buchanan bested "The Drifter" Luke Hutchens from Yadkinville for the win.
Modified ET saw Johnny Hodges claim his 4th WRP Championship. Johnny had his best year of racing ever with 8 final round appearances and 7 wins. Dennis Bolick did his best to keep up with Hodges but came up short and settled for runner up in the points.
Third through nineth place was separated by less than fifteen points.
2010 Modified ET Champion Dennis Coffee flexed the muscles of his mighty Maverick and took the win Saturday over Teaz Powell to secure a third place points finish.
When all the dust had settled, here's how the points sorted out; 1st Johnny Hodges 180 2nd Dennis Bolick 142 3rd Dennis Coffee 132
4th Paul Trivett 127 5th Wayne Ward 126.
In Jr. Dragsters, Granite Falls' Jacob Goble got his first Championship besting the two former WRP Champions Hannah Blevins and Taylor South who finished second and third in the points.
