What a way to end a season, perfect weather and a combined total of over 200 of the best bracket racers in the nation, converged on Wilkesboro Raceway Park for their big 3 day season ending celebration and race.
Things got kicked of Thursday night with the popular Test N Tune night along with the Championship races for the Carquest Auto Parts True Street Showdown and the Crossroads HD Street Bike Challenge.
The Carquest Street division is broke down to 4 classes. 7 seconds, 8 seconds, 9 seconds, and 10 seconds. The race is 3 rounds ran back to back, the object is to run the closest to what ever second class you are in.
Champions in class were, 7 sec. Chad Shumate and his bad fast Mustang. Another Mustang driver took the 8 sec. class, and did it with a perfect season, TR Nichols drove to a unheard of 8 wins in as many races to win his second 8 sec. title. In the 9 sec. class another Mustang!, Jerry Wheeler and his beautiful black stallion proved to be a unstoppable force. What i think is the toughest class because of the competition is the 10 sec. class and for the second year in a row 16 year old Kaytlyn Shannon and her Mustang took the top honors.
In the Crossroads HD Stree Bike Challenge, for the first time in four years, a Bumgarner won't be setting at the head of the Champions table. Michael Holloway drove his Sportster
To Victory over Gary McGlamory. For more info on how you can enter the Thursday night fun next year visitwww.wilkesbororacewaypark.com for more details
With all the 2011 WRP Championships settled, Friday night was time for the best of the 2001 season the square off to see just who was the best!
In Jr Dragster, "Cool Hand" Luke Eggers claimed the WRP Race of Champions win
Modified ET came down to Former IHRA Champion Kelly Stephens and 2nd generation driver Tesz Powell. When the lights dropped and the cars took off, Powell gave it his all but came up so short. Stephens won the match up and the gold by 8/1000 of a second!
In Top ET it was all Tim Turbyfill and his beautiful multi colored dragster. Turbyfill could prove to be a top contender for the 2012 WRP Top ET Championship. In Friday's Gambler race, 2011 WRP Modified Champion Johnny Hodges took out the TOP ET entry of Roger Robertson in a all Chevy Nova final.
Then to cap off a perfect weekend the 2011 edition of the Race Against Cancer was held on Saturday.
This annual event is a benefit race with 100% of all proceeds going to help local cancer victims and their families.
This race has a unique format. Both Top ET and Modified ET race in class till there's 1 left in class, then both meet in the finals for all the marbles. The Jr Dragsters also have a race but stay in class.
When all the dust settled Todd McKinney claimed the big check in Winners Circle.
In the Jr. Dragster portion, "The Poster Child" Brandon Waint met up with 2011 dual track Champion Robert "The Hitman" Vogler.
Young Brandon tried but ended up being another notch in The Hitman's gun belt.
WRP will be open for Test N Tune Thursday night for a few more weeks.
The staff of Wilkesboro Raceway Park would like to thanks all the fans and racers that made the success of the 2011 WRP racing season.
