WRP Celebrates Champions

frank roberts dennis coffeyThe season of of rain is over. With almost half of the season being rained out, most say Mother Nature was the big winnner.

In Top ET, Frank”The Snake” Roberts and his beautiful Corvette Took home the championship. Roberts bested reining track champion Roger Robertson to take his second WRP title.Mike Davis, Tim Adams, and Steve Clark rounded out the top five.
Two WRP champions were in the hunt all year for the Modified ET championship.
Johnny Hodges with his classic Nova “Ol Blue” and reining champion, Dennis Coffey and his mighty Mavrick
Hodges, a four time WRP champion did all he could, but by a slim 3 point measure,Coffey backed up his 2012 championship by adding another this year.
Tom Watson, Tim Rothrock, and Christopher Kirby rounded out the top five.

Greene And Powell best in Race Against Cancer

tez powell chris johnson chase hensdell allen greeneAllen Greene is a regular at Wilkesboro Raceway Park, but you rarely ever see him in a driver suit. Greene can mostly be seen crewing and helping out reining WRP Top ET champion Roger Robertson, but not this past Saturday!

Greene rooled out his blazing fast Trans Am and put all challengers on the trailer to take home the $2000 prize. Greene was matched up with Tracy Kilby and his classic Nova in the finals.
Modified ET saw the young guns of the sport show the old pros how it’s done.
Both former multi track Jr. Dragster champions, Tez Powell and Hannah “Bubblegum” Blevins and their classic Chevelle’s met up in the finals.
Blevins gave it all she had, but came up short handing Powell the win.

Buchanan And Watson Victorious At WRP

In Top ET, former multi time WRP champion Robert Buchanan and his dragster took home the win, but by no easy task. Buchannan was paired up with another former multi time WRP champion in Timbo Blevins.
Modified ET saw the same results, two former champions, Tom Watson and Dennis Coffey. Most of the time when Coffey is in the final round, he get the win, but not today, Watson and his classic Mercury took home the prize.
In the Thursday Night Thunder shootouts, Michael Holloway took home the win in the Crossroads Harley Davidson Streetbike Shootout, and Jerry Wheeler was the winner in Top Street.

Leaser Marler And Coffey Take Wins

Finally Mother Nature went away and Father Sunshine smiled brightly on the racing at Wilkesboro Raceway Park.

Carl Marler and his Duster took home the Top ET prize by defeating CJ Curtis and the famed El Toro Barracuda in a all Mopar final.
Mdoified ET Saw Track Champion Dennis Coffey take the win over Keith Atchison.
In their final appearance of the 2013 campaign, Larry Leaser brought out his big wheelie popping Camaro and took home the victory.
Racing This week moves to daytime, with Gates opening at 11 Qualifing @ 12:30.

Father and Son Finals highlight Big Bucks Shootout

The pride of the Mopar camp, father and son, Luke and Brandon Hutchens have raced each other for well over a decade, in fact took each other out in  few races, but had never met in a final round til Saturday night. A confident Brandon and his Duster left the line first, but Luke and his mighty Plymouth Arrow used the force and nailed the start with a .0009 light, giving him the holeshot win over son Brandon.

In Modified ET it was a all bowtie event in the final round.

Former WRP Track champion Robert Buchanan and his dragster proved to be to much for all there. Buchanan defeated the Camaro entry of Mike Davis to take the win in Top ET.
In Modified ET, Neal Church and his Mustang was on a wire! The car was all but flawless all night. Church took out Chris Kilby and his classic Olds for the win.

Once again Mother Nature took control and washed out the Modified ET BIG BUCKS Shootout. It has been re-scheduled for Aug. 10th.

Robertson and Bolick Double Up

Very rare do you see back to back winners in one division, but Jessie Robertson and Danny Bolick treated the WRP fans to back to back wins in both divisions!

Robertson and his dragster took on the mighty red Camaro piloted by Tim Adams in the finals. Adams was a little to anxious and turned on the red light giving Robertson the win on the starting line!
Bolick and his Mustang was pared up with the hired gun from the Stockyard militia, former WRP champion Norman Powell. Powell didn’t give it away on the line, but Bolick was .001 of a second away from a perfect start and it was all over at that point.

Most of the time when you say the name Robertson associated with a TOP ET win at Wilkesboro Raceway Park, you are refering to reining WRP Top ET Champion Roger Robertson. Not this time! the second generation, son Jessie took a page from his dad’s win book, then he and his dragster put it to good use! Robertson took out fellow High Country racer Clyde McKinney and his killer Camaro in the finals.
Modified ET saw another High Country victor in Dennis Bolick. Bolick and his mighty Mustang took on & out wilkesboro’s Chris Yates and his Malibu in the final round.
Test and tune will be moved to Wed. night this week and will be the only on track action this week due to the annual Singing In The Foothills concerts.

Thankfully Mother Nature went somewhere else this weekend and the WRP fans were treated to a exciting evening of racing!

In Top ET Mike Davis in his Camaro & Scotty Johnson and his Opel GT carved their way thru one of the largest fields of the year to meet in the finals.
Normally when Johnson reaches the finals he’ll turn on the win light, but not this time! Davis turned on the power & took home his first win of the year.
Modified ET saw another GM final when the classic Novas of  four time track champion Johnny Hodges & David Knight. Hodges gave a championship effort, but Knight wouldn’t be denied, and took the win.
